Alaska is the home of a wide range or racing opportunities . There are more than 10 triathlons a year and many other types of races to choose from.
Membership offers numerous benefits. Memberships are valid for the calendar year between Jan. 1 and Sept 30.

HI! My name is Triny Willerton, I was hit by a careless driver in 2018 while riding my bike. I was almost killed and I decided to do everything I could to help prevent what happened to me from happening to others. I founded It Could Be Me a non profit with a mission to make roads safe for everyone. Last year we joined a coalition with Vision Zero and Families for Safe Streets to request congressional support for the Zero Traffic Deaths Resolution. We have a virtual meeting with Senator Dan Sullivan next week and we need constituents. The meetings take 30 minutes and it is a great opportunity to share your experience and make a difference. The second triathlon in our series is located in the city of North Pole! North Pole is a small Alaskan city, near Fairbanks. It's known for its year-round Christmas decorations, including candy cane–striped street lights. Santa Claus House is a Christmas store with walls covered in children’s letters to Santa and a huge Santa statue outside. Streets have names like Kris Kringle Drive and Mistletoe Lane. Nearby, the Chena Lake Recreation Area has a beach, nature trails and picnic areas.![]()

The North Pole Triathlon is an Olympic distance race held in and around the beautiful Chena Lake Recreation Area. The area includes a 260-acre lake and is surrounded by spruce trees. ![]()

It is an opportunity to swim 1500 meters in some of the best open water in the region and to bike 40K (26 miles) through a great community. The 10K (6.2 mile) run will be on a combination of paved and gravel trails within the Chena Lake Recreation Area. We hope you will agree this event is something locals can be proud of in the world of triathlons. It is also a great introduction for anyone who has never swam in an open water race and wants to give it a try. A wetsuit is HIGHLY recommended! ![]()

SWIM: Water temperatures at Chena Lakes are on the cool side (55 to 65 degrees) so it is advised to bring a wetsuit. USAT, allows wetsuits for water temperature at or below 78 degrees F. The swim begins with a mass start along the shore. The course will be marked with large orange floats at each corner. ![]()

BIKE: The bike course is 40 km on public roads and relatively flat.![]()

RUN: The run is a well-marked 10 km on a combination of paved and dirt trails. It consists of one large loop with a short out and back followed by a shorter second loop.![]()

The race was named after Alaska's spring when the ice and snow that has accumulated over the winter months starts to melt away. As the ice thaws, the days become longer, temperatures grow warmer, and ice over the rivers begins to give way to the currents of the Chena River and surrounding rivers. The ice breaks up into chunks and floats lazily downstream. This is what we call the Breakup season.![]()

🏊♀️ 🚴 🏃 This is the first sprint triathlon of the season for Fairbanks, Alaska and the only sprint triathlon within a 250 mile radius in the month of May. The Breakup Tri offers a unique opportunity to give the sport of triathlon a try without being intimidated or overwhelmed by the number of participants. The race will consist of a 500 yard swim, 13.1 mile bike, and 3.1 mile run through and around the beautiful University of Alaska Fairbanks @uafairbanks campus. There is a 99-participant limit and it sells out every year, so be sure to register early to ensure a spot.![]()
